“Emerging sensation” is an exhibition showing textiles and electronics woven together as artistic expressions. Malin Bobeck Tadaa is the female artist behind the exhibition shown in Stockholm during January 2019. The exhibition was an interactive constellation where she gave life to textile sculptures with the help of Augmented Reality (AR) and Microsoft HoloLens. The road leading to the exhibition was long and started with an idea more than two years ago. Her interest in textile arts had been there forever as she searched for possibilities to implement the technical solutions into the art of textiles. Through the exhibition “Emerging Sensations” she showed the people how to implement electronics and textiles, making it an artform. This exhibition was built on showing the guest how to experience art by being a part of it. The unique technique used by the artist is applicated on the textiles to change the colour and to react to touch. The impression is enhanced by the visitor using a “HoloLens”, which is an AR- headset. Through the headset, sound effects are activated, and digital graphics are projected between the visitor and the rather psychedelic installations. For a new spectator this can seem, not entirely without substance, like something of a digital drug experience. The theme of the exhibition is development, the evolution, from the beginning of all existence to the cell division of the body. This is fascinating and surreal to the spectator. The division of cells get a special focus in the exhibition, coloured by the personal experience of the artist.

Pioneering with potential to grow

This kind of art is pioneering in many ways. You should be aware that this is an early, and very small, step regarding digital art. It is technically advanced in many ways, but the spectator can still see that there is more to come. Every day, new technical solutions are produced, both in lights and sound techniques as well as in programming of software. The artist, Malin Bobeck Tadaa, is a pioneer in the area and this exhibition is the beginning of something great for this business.

About the artist

Malin is a textile artist that has worked in the textile business for a very long time. The work of combining traditional fabrics with modern techniques like LEDs and optic fibres comes from her early interest in fabrics and textile arts. Through programming and different kinds of installations in her fabrics she creates objects inviting the spectator to interact with her art. She is very fascinated by the worlds hidden for us humans and gets her inspiration from worlds like the deep sea, outer space and the inner parts of human imagination. All the work done to create this exhibition helped her in many ways with dealing with the cancer diagnosis that she got. The part of the exhibition that illustrates the division of cells in the human body is a direct result of it. When “Emerging Sensations” was ready, it became a celebration to all the people supporting her during her illness. Earlier, she has exhibited art in Gothenburg and Borås and after this exhibition in Stockholm, she has gotten requests from New York as well as from Paris which shows that the exhibition has had great success abroad.
